Kenya’s road-crash statistics tell us how many people are killed or injured. But numbers cannot tell us who they were, what they meant to their families, what was lost, or how life changed afterwards.
Behind the Statistics gives those numbers a human face.
Pamoja Road Safety Initiative documents the experiences of road-crash survivors and families to increase public understanding of road safety and encourage action.

Our commitment to dignity, privacy and consent
Pamoja Road Safety Initiative recognizes that road crashes can cause profound and lasting pain to survivors and families.
Participation in Behind the Statistics is voluntary. Stories are collected with respect for the dignity, privacy and wishes of survivors and affected families.
The stories are not collected or published for commercial purposes. Their purpose is road- safety awareness, education, advocacy and public-interest learning.
Pamoja will seek written informed consent before using a person’s story, photograph, recording or identifying information for awareness activities or sharing it with third parties beyond the agreed purpose.
Participants should understand how their story will be used and should have an opportunity to ask questions before providing consent.
Where appropriate, identifying information may be limited or withheld at the family’s request.
We tell these stories to honour people, support learning and help prevent future road trauma — never to exploit someone’s experience.
